Steilacoom, Washington — Washington's Most Haunted Town
Pierce County · Population ~6,600
The oldest incorporated town in Washington State, Steilacoom sits on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound near Tacoma. It's also widely considered the most haunted town in the Pacific Northwest, with at least six well-documented haunted buildings on its Main Street alone.
Why Steilacoom Is Strange
The old Western State Hospital — a former insane asylum — looms over the town. Thousands of patients lived and died there over 150 years. The grounds contain unmarked graves, and paranormal investigators have captured some of the most compelling EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) recordings in the region.

Charming waterfront community with historic character. Walking distance to the ferry to Anderson Island. Great value compared to nearby Tacoma and Lakewood.
